Voicing – The pipe shop builds the pipes, then the voicers teach the pipes to sing! For 21 years, Tom Watgen has been working with pipes to achieve the wide range of expression, color and warmth that is characteristic of Reuter organs. He is in charge of a team of voicers who are all musicians and proficient on wind or keyboard instruments. They painstakingly prepare every pipe for every organ, so that each can eventually take its place in a much larger ensemble—often an instrument with thousands of pipes—and produce beautiful, balanced sound with consistent speech and tone.
